Acupuncture is a balancing treatment that encourages the body to regulate and heal itself. According to the National Institutes for Health (NIH), the insertion and manipulation of acupuncture needles sends subtle biochemical messages to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Studies suggest that acupuncture can cause the body to release endorphins (chemicals that inhibit pain), reduce inflammation, improve circulation and stimulate immune activity.
Will I feel better immediately or will It take several treatments?
This seems to be different for each individual patient. Generally, patients who respond positively to acupuncture tend to fall into three categories: those who feel relief from their symptoms during and immediately after the treatment; those who feel relief later that same day or the next day; and those who feel relief a few days later. In the beginning, the changes you feel after an acupuncture treatment may fade after a few days. With consistent treatment, diet and lifestyle changes, the changes you experience should begin to stabilize and remain stable for progressively longer periods of time. In the end, your treatments will be to prevention-based to keep you as healthy as possible, and to catch things before they become a problem.
How many treatments will I need?
This is unique to the individual. Acute conditions may respond within just a few treatments while chronic conditions tend to gradually improve over several weeks. After reviewing your case during the first few visits, I will recommend how often you should have acupuncture and then re-evaluate your case every 4 visits.
Do I have to believe in acupuncture for it to work?
While a positive attitude may promote healing, we have seen acupuncture work for patients who were skeptical of it and for infants or animals, who had no previous experience with it.
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture in general is not painful. The needles are extremely thin (about the width of 2 human hairs), solid, disposable and flexible. Sensations that patients normally experience are a dull ache or tingling, which is associated with the movement of energy stimulated by the insertion of the needles. This is a desired affect and should not feel painful.
What happens during an acupuncture treatment?
Many people may be unfamiliar with what exactly takes place in an acupuncture session. Wondering what happens during treatment, how many visits may be needed and whether health insurance covers it are all common concerns. In a typical first visit, a practitioner will take a detailed health history, fully investigate your chief complaint and provide acupuncture for you. This may take up to an hour and a half but is necessary to create an individualized treatment plan that takes into account your present physical, emotional, and nutritional condition, while focusing on your main health concern. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles (the width of two human hairs) into specific anatomical points. Return visits to an acupuncturist may also introduce the option of Chinese herbal therapy. Chinese herbal therapy reinforces acupuncture in a natural way without side-effects. The two are often used together to strengthen the effects of treatment and to achieve longer-lasting results in a shorter amount of time.

With healthcare uncertainties and rising out-of-pocket expense, I understand the need for patients to spend their healthcare dollars as wisely as possible, which is I choose to keep my office visits as reasonably priced as possible considering the level of care being provided. The First Office Visit, with treatment is 125. Follow-up Appointments are 60.

Although there are some Insurance Providers that do cover Acupuncture Services, and although I do not process those claims in my office, I will be more than happy to provide you with a printed, or written receipt that will have the correct billing codes, which will help you receive your re-imbursement.
